THE
CONFERENCE HOUSE ASSOCIATION HISTORICAL RESEARCH LIBRARY
In
the fall of 1999, we announced the opening of our historical
research library. The initial work on the library collection
was done by Phillip Pappas, an American History doctoral candidate
at the City University of New York, who not only helped the
Board build the collection, but did extensive research in St.
John in New Brunswick, Canada and at the University of New Brunswick
in Fredericton, Canada, on the Billopp family when they left
Staten Island after the American Revolutionary War. These research
papers are part of the library collection.
Some examples of the books which are part of the library are
"The New York Loyalists" (Philip Ranlet); "The
Writings of Benjamin Franklin" (Benjamin Franklin); "The
Howe Brothers and the American Revolution" (Ira D. Grubber);
and "Reluctant Revolutionaries: New York City and the Road
to Independence, 1763-1776" (Joseph S. Tidemann).
The Conference House Library Collection is available by appointment
only. Anyone interested in utilizing the books and/or research
materials, may call the Conference House Program Center/Office.
As The Conference House Association continues to build its library
collection, donations of historical books, documents and photos
relating to the Conference House would be most appreciated.
